Informed Female Voters

Unbiased conversation that cuts through the political BS and gets down to the facts.

I am a little tired of hearing women say they love Sarah Palin because they can relate to her. She is from a small town, a mom, and is a member of the PTA…like you! Well can you lead the country?? Relating to a woman and believing that she could lead the country are two COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THINGS. Know the facts is all I ask.
The unfortunate reality is that John MCain is 72 ans has had cancer FOUR times. I hate to be blunt but we have to be aware of the highly likely situation that Palin could be the Commander in Chief (in reality it can be day two of his term) and Palin would be left to protect us and guide us in these tough times. They say it’s about who is at the top of the ticket but in this case it is not. McCain is too fragile to assume he will be healthy to lead us until he is 76 years old. So please inform yourself on Sarah Palin and her stance on issues that could affect your life and the lives of your children.

-She cut special education funding by 65% before she found out she was
having a special needs child
-she cut all funding (for housing and resources) for pregnant
teenagers before her daughter was pregnant
-she doesn’t believe a woman can choose whether she wants to have an
abortion even in the case of incest and rape (she wants to overturn
Roe v Wade - a HUGE step back for women’s rights). It’s not about
believeing in abortion it’s about a women’s right to choose what is
right for herself and not be told what to do
-she refuses to teach sex education in schools
-she wants to teach creationism is schools (a religiously-motivated
rejection of science and evolution
-she believes that the war in Iraq is God’s plan watch at
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QG1vPYbRB7k&feature=related
-she supported Alaska becoming independent of the US (the country she
claims to love so much?) watch at
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZwvPNXYrIyI
-she is under investigation for corruption
And don’t worry about the media scrutiny of her because she is up for the challenge (she ridiculed Hillary for being weak under media scrutiny)

It’s not a matter of agreeing or disagreeing, being a liberal or a conservative.
Just know the truth so you can decide on the issues and facts and not what
politicians tell you.

This speech is what led me to create this blog. I came into this election unbiased and open to hearing both sides of this election. I will admit as a women I was proud of Hillary but was never a full convert. But Sarah Palin’s speech actually made me appreciate Hillary more. Not because of all the rumors and stories that have been surfacing, but because it was lacking substance. Where was her vision, plan, pedigree?

We all know how critical this election is. It will affect the rest of our lives. Wars, terrorism, faulty economies, nuclear threats, poor foreign relations, and environmental concerns. We are depleting our natural resources and need to find alternative energies before we are on empty with no other options. The housing market is so bad, I will probably have to move out of my hometown and state to buy a house and I am considered middle class. Gas prices are obscene, our public school systems and our health care are crumbling and who knows what kind of social security will be waiting for us when it’s time to retire. She didn’t address any of these issues.

She made it very clear that she is a Hockey mom (and we all saw the signs that the Republican campaign handed out to the crowd of women they piled into the front rows - Palin Power, Alaska for Palin, Students for Palin, Hockey Moms for Palin, Vets for Palin - did all these groups get together and make signs with the same exact marker and handwriting. Come on ladies, they are playing to our emotions. Which is fine, but let’s get back to the speech that many of you probably loved. But I need your opinions, let’s talk about this.

Within her feisty sarcasm was little fact and truth. I ask you, what vision did she provide for her role in the White House? What answers did she have for the issues the country is facing? Sure she proved she was tough, but is that it? What is behind that? What substance was there other than a sarcastic fiery speech that attacked Obama calling him just a “community leader” - saying that she had “real responsibilities” - that she still didn’t clarify. First of all, Martin Luther King was a community leader, the civil rights and the women’s rights movements were led by community leaders. They have vision, strength, and the ability to inspire and mobilize millions - something most politicians don’t. So she sold the private jet on ebay and deployed the national guard to fight wild fires (does that mean you can run a country?). She just got her passport last year to visit the troops (can she protect us from terrorists?). She claims that Sen Obama and Sen Biden has no executive experience, well neither does Senator McCain.

Please read this article that was on the Yahoo front page this morning so you can know the full facts for your decision making. The Republican campaign is claiming the media is being unfair, but they are just triyng to ask the hard questions that we all want answers to.

It’s no secret that the ladies are playing an enormous role this presidential election. And it’s no secret that both parties know how important our vote is. In fact, it is so important that politicians will do and say anything to get it. So let’s get together and get informed on all of the facts before we make our very important decision. This is not a liberal or conservative blog. I am a registered Republican because I was raised in a Republican family. I always voted for the candidate my family voted for because I never took the time to learn enough about the issues to feel confident in my own decision. Obviously when the people we love and respect are passionate about a candidate we can be easily persuaded. Let’s be honest, politics aren’t our favorite subject (they sure as hell aren’t mine). Old white men telling us “the other guy is the bad guy, and I will lower your taxes”. Snore. But this year, we are listening, and millions of us are getting involved. We all know that politicians will be politicians and they bank on the uninformed, and now they are banking on the emotions of uninformed women. And there is just too much at stake to not make an informed decision based on our own values and beliefs. So let’s cut through the crap together and clearly lay out the facts, our opinions and reactions, and have a discussion that will inform each other while we inform ourselves! Please pass this blog to all the women in your life so they can join in the conversation (if not to learn than to teach).
